According to The Iliad, Aphrodite, daughter of Zeus, is the Goddess of Beauty, of Love and of the good fortune of sailors. Its origin is uncertain, as is its name.
The divine power of Aphrodite is the embrace between man and woman, it evokes the waves of the sea which, in their imperishable movement, guarantee the necessary humidity that allows life to exist and reproduce.
My version is an iconographic reference to Botticelli's famous painting "The Birth of Venus" of 1486, preserved in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
I rearranged the Shell logo here in the 1950s version and "NERITO", at the center of my work, was the first love of Aphrodite; he was transformed into a shell when he refused Aphrodite's invitation to follow her to Olympus.
The phrase in English in the head is a reflection of the goddess, says that men have always persisted in grasping its essence without ever succeeding. If for centuries the concept of beauty has been subordinated to the tastes of the ages and to very rigid aesthetic canons, today perhaps we can definitely give this word a much wider freedom of interpretation.
Below is the lyrics of the song "Venus", originally written by Shocking Blue in 1969 and made memorable in 1988 by Bananarama.

This is a personal interpretation of this greek myth through the creation of a digital collage done with already exhisting graphic element taken on the web and match together to create new and unexpected visions of these ancient world. During the 2020 I will be creating other illustration of other myths with the same approach. It will come out an intresting gallery, don't you believe?
